What an incredible week! First of all, thank you so much for sharing your children with us the last few days. We have been so blessed by each of the kiddos who participated, so thank you for bringing them every day and talking at home about what Jesus is teaching them. Our team is praying over your family. We hope we see you throughout the year at the many fun, free activities we have planned for families!

Bible Study
Jesus talks a lot about worry in the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 6:25-34, and that’s what the kids talked about today. Remember at the beginning of the week, the kids learned that God is big enough to run the universe but he still cares about each of us? In the same way, they learned that if God is faithful with the big things in our lives, then he is faithful with the small things too.
According to a 2022 Pew Research study, 4 in 10 parents said they were extremely or very worried about their children struggling with anxiety or depression. In 2021, the American Academy of Pediatrics declared a national emergency in children’s mental health. Why are our children suffering from worry and anxiety? Why have worry and anxiety become the enemies that rob children of the joy of everyday life? This issue is complex. Societal pressures and harmful influences paired with the built-in alarm system God designed to identify danger makes it difficult for children not to overreact or feel overwhelmed. However, thinking about today’s Bible passage can serve as a reminder and magnify the truth that God keeps His promises.
Continue the conversation with your kids:
- Name the many ways that God has already taken care of you. Thank Him for helping you! What are some things that you are worried about?
- Reread Matthew 6:25-34 together and be reminded that if he takes care of birds and flowers, then He will take care of us too.
- Parents: One way to help children with their anxiety is for the adults in their lives to address their own anxiety. Take inventory in your own heart. Has there been an emptying of strength in your life because of the worries and burdens you carry? Read Matthew 6:25-34. Be open to how God may be speaking to you through this passage. Seek out a trusted friend to talk it through, or call Bogey Hills to arrange a meeting with Pastor Coby.
Keep Learning this Summer!
VBS is so much fun and a great time for kids to learn about God. If you have a church that you regularly attend, we encourage you to get involved beyond Sunday morning services. How can you learn more about the Bible and get to know your church family more? But if you don’t have a church home, we humbly invite you to visit with us on a Sunday soon. Here’s what you can expect at Bogey Hills on Sunday mornings! If there’s any way we can serve your family, please let us know.
We had another amazing evening at VBS! The kids are really getting the hang of all of the songs, and we can’t wait for you to hear them sing their hearts out on Friday night at VBS Family Night!
Friday Night – Family Night!
VBS Family Night is on Friday evening from 6:30-8:30. Tap here for details so you know what to expect!
Tonight’s Bible Study
Bible study with Pastor Coby reminded the kids that Jesus came to save the world, and that we can all trust Jesus as our Savior. They looked at the story of Nicodemus from John 3. Nicodemus heard Jesus say the most recognized verse today – John 3:16: For God so loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. The heart of VBS is to share the gospel with children and their whole families: God cares for you, and God forgives you.
John also writes about the time Jesus told them, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus came to pay the penalty for our sins. His way is the only way. His death is the only sacrifice needed. His victory over death and the grave proves that Jesus, who is “the life,” can provide eternal life for those who believe in Him. To verify truth it helps to have multiple first-hand accounts, which we do. John writes at the end, in John 19:35, “He who saw this has testified so that you also may believe. His testimony is true, and he knows he is telling the truth.”
Continue the conversation with your kids: What does eternal life mean? Why do we need to follow Jesus as Savior? Parents, if you don’t know the answer to that, Pastor Coby would be more than happy to meet with you to help you understand it so you can better explain it to your kids!

VBS Family Night

Tonight’s Bible Study
The kids learned from Pastor Coby about the time in John 4 when Jesus met a woman at a well. Jesus, a Jewish man, surprised this Samaritan woman by starting a conversation with her, something culturally and socially taboo. He revealed that He knew her personal history of sin. Instead of condemning her, Jesus gently exposed the truth of her life and offered her something greater: “living water,” or eternal life and a restored relationship with God. Their conversation shows that Jesus doesn’t turn us away because of our sin. Instead, He calls us to walk away from that sin into freedom and transformation. The woman responded by sharing her freedom and transformation with people in the town so they too might believe in the Savior. This story highlights tonight’s Big Truth: “God is not OK with sin, and yet He loves sinners like me.”
Continue the conversation with your kids: What part of this story surprises you? Why? How does it make you feel that Jesus knows you make mistakes and sin, but he loves you anyway?
Bogey Hills Youth Group
VBS is all about the kids, but you might have kids older than 5th grade at home. Bogey Hills has a really great youth group of middle and high schoolers who have fun together and most importantly, encourage each other in living like Jesus. They have a Sunday School class, hang out with one another outside of church, and serve at Bogey as often as possible. You’ll see most of these kids helping with VBS this week! One of the highlights of the year is attending youth camp in July with many other Missouri youth groups – if you think you might be interested in that for middle and high schoolers you know, text back or call the church office at 636.724.3036.

VBS Motto
Our VBS motto is “Made to Magnify God!” This builds on our memory verse about praising God. “The more we get to know our Creator and the more we love Him, the better we understand who we are and what our purpose is. We were created to bring Him glory. God has unique plans and purposes for each person, but we can know that, whatever those plans look like, they will ultimately result in His glory.” – from GotQuestions.org
Tonight’s Bible Study
The kids learned that even though God is so big that He keeps the whole universe going, He still cares about what’s happening to us. They discussed when Jesus calmed a storm in Mark 4. Jesus and the disciples were on a boat crossing the sea, and a huge storm rolled in. Even though the disciples were seasoned fishermen, they were freaking out while Jesus slept right through it! They woke him up and questioned if He really cared about them. Jesus then instantly stopped the storm and reminded the men to have faith. The disciples were terrified and asked each other who this Jesus was.
Continue the conversation with your kids
- List some BIG things God does (i.e. created all the animals and bugs and plants, put planets in our universe, makes rain and snow). While He is doing those BIG things, what are some ways He still takes care of us? (i.e. providing family and friends and church families who love us, creating delicious foods to eat like strawberries and watermelon, and having simple, beautiful things to look at like flowers and butterflies)
- Discuss together: This lesson from the Bible reminds us that bad things happen sometimes. How has God helped you during something hard? Give your child an example of when God helped you, too!

Memory Verse
- This year at VBS, the Bible verse the kids will memorize and learn about is Psalm 34:3: Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt His name together. Why should we talk about how great God is? There are so many adjectives that describe Him: full of glory, great, wise, powerful, good, merciful, and faithful! He is the One who saves us, keeps His promises, and pardons sin. Praise is a vital part of a life surrendered to God, and it gives credit where credit is due.
Tonight’s VBS Bible Study
- The kids learned that God created everything there is, and yet He still wants to spend time us. Their Bible study was from Mark 10:13-16: People were bringing children to Jesus, but the disciples were trying to turn them away. The verse says Jesus was “indignant,” – or angry, grieved, and maybe even disappointed – at their response because in His eyes, children are image-bearers of God and are worthy to be included!
- Continue the conversation with your kids:
- Name some things God has done and what we can be thankful to Him for. This is a wonderful exercise because it turns our hearts back to Him!
- Ask your kids: why did God send Jesus to earth? (to fix the relationship between God and people); What does it mean to you that God sees you?
- A question for parents: How can you help your children understand the value Jesus places on them?
